MacMillan Provincial Park

TiVo and I drove up to MacMillan Provincial Park to check out the old growth forest.

It’s known as Cathedral Grove and is one of the most accessible stands of giant Douglas fir trees on Vancouver Island.  Interspersed are groves of ancient Western red cedar trees.

Canada’s parks are also known for their welcoming policies for dogs:  keep them leashed and under control and carry out their waste.  Do this and they are welcome in the Provincial and National Parks.

So we hit the trails and came upon the largest Douglas Fir in the grove.  A real beauty at nearly 10 ft in diameter.
