Canyonlands National Park

Sat, Oct 1, 2016

The elevation drop between the mesas around Moab and the eroded areas are some 2,000 ft.  And that makes for some beautiful scenary.

It’s the rivers, of course, that create the canyons.  And then the rain fills the cracks on the sides of the mesas, freezes and expands and chips away more of the sandstone.  The result is ever shrinking mesas.

Canyonlands’ beauty is due to its location.  The Green River is to the west and flows south where it meets the Colorado River.  The combined rivers wrap around Canyonlands and flow south creating an Island in the Sky.  It’s pretty cool.
